NIVA offers vigorous academic and extra-curricular programs in a liberal Seventh-day Adventist Christian environment to an international community of students aged 3 to 18 years from approximately 25 countries. NIVA, which was established in 1991, is a respected educational institution that endeavors to go beyond intellectual rigor and academic standards and places strong emphasis on character education, cross-cultural understanding, responsible citizenship, leadership, spirituality, and the necessary attitude for life-long learning.

NIVA’s teachers come from America, Australia, China, England, France, Ghana, Holland, India, the Philippines, Russia, and Thailand. These cosmopolitan professionals bring a diverse wealth of experience with them, which is so essential for an international school that takes pride in instilling cross-cultural understanding among its students.

NIVA uses a North American curriculum as the foundation while incorporating selected international curriculums for its culturally-diverse students in its kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school levels. Admission at NIVA is open to male and female students of any nationality, race, or religion. Applicants must meet the grade-level preparedness requirement by sitting for English language and mathematics admissions tests.

  Brief History

NIVA first entered the Thai education scene in 1991 as NIVA Overseas School (NOS), a private study center catering to overseas students who wanted prepare and sit for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education examinations. Classes were conducted from Secondary 1 to 11. This in turn led to the opening of Niva International Kindergarten (NIK) in 1999 in answer to the demands of parents whNiva International School Under Constructionose older children studied at NOS. By the end of 2001, the combined enrollment at NOS and NIK had reached 250 students and the decision to purchase the land where the current school now stands was made. The present school and its facilities were completed in July 2002 and Niva International School (NIVA) opened on August, 5, 2002 with 320 students. Today, NIVA serves around 350 students who come from around 30 countries.

Although originally a British curriculum school, NIVA has always incorporated American and other international elements in its program. In 2004 NIVA submitted an American curriculum from K through 12 to the Thai Ministry of Education, which is now approved allowing our students an American/International path to graduation.  The IB program is in the organizational stage and if all goes well classes can begin in August 2008.

All subjects at NIVA, with the exception of Thai, Chinese and modern languages, are taught through the medium of English.

NIVA is an independent member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, has Candidate Status with Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and Provisional Membership with Council of International Schools (CIS). The self-study process is underway through CIS for CIS/WASC accreditation.

    The name, NIVA
Originally named for the children of the school's founders, Nicholas and Vanisara, NIVA means excellence and has come to stand for Nurturing, Innovative, Virtuous and Achieving: The hallmarks of Niva International School.
